(KANSAS CITY, Ks.) The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU) recently launched a redesigned and more user friendly website (www.bpu.com) intended to provide customers and the community with helpful, educational, and real-time information about the award-winning utility.
The expanded website provides practical, every day information on BPU programs and services for both residential and commercial customers, including up-to-date information on the latest utility happenings, online bill viewing and bill pay capabilities, an events calendar, media releases, hearing materials, information on conversation and weatherization initiatives, links to other external resources, and even a children’s learning page.
One of the more unique features of the new website is a live real-time outage reporting map that covers the utility’s entire service area. Customers can now check to see if an electrical outage has been reported in their area (down to the street level), and a summary of affected/restored customers, as well as the number of outage calls reported can be tracked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The site also provides information on how to report an outage if one occurs.
“By improving usability and making it simpler to use our website, BPU hopes to create a one-stop shop for those wanting additional information about the utility, or their specific utility service,” stated David Mehlhaff, Public affairs Officer of BPU. “This is part of the utility’s on-going effort to improve communication with our customers and the community, providing a better understanding and continued transparency of BPU’s services and programs, policies, and day-to-day initiatives that are intended to serve and better the community.”
