(KANSAS CITY, KANSAS) Members of the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities re-elected Robert L. Milan, Sr., as Board President on May 9. Milan also served as President of the Board from 1995 to 1997, and in 2002-2003.

Other elected officers are Loretta M. Colombel, Vice President; and Mark P. Jones, Secretary. Colombel represents the BPU Second District, and Jones is an At-Large Member of the Board. They were both re-elected to the BPU Board in 2005.

After the election, outgoing Board President Mary Gonzales congratulated the new officers. Gonzales served two terms as President, since 2005.

Milan represents the BPU First District and was re-elected to the Board this year for a four-year term. He has served on the board for 16 years, since 1991.

A native of Kansas City, Kansas, Milan worked at the U.S. Department of Labor for 32 years, retiring as a Federal Representative. He is active in the Northeast Optimist Club and NAACP. Earlier this year he received the Annual Community Leadership Award from Saint Peter Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.

In 2001 Milan served as State President of AARP. He is past President of AFGE Local No. 1748, the Government Employees’ union, and served as Secretary of the Kansas City, Kansas-Wyandotte County Port Authority. He is also a past Vice President of Turner House Inc.

The Kansas City Globe selected Milan as one of the 100 Most Influential People in 1998, and Grinter Heights Neighborhood Association voted him “Man of the Year” in 1993. He received the E.A. Freeman Humanitarian Award from the NAACP, KCK branch in 2003. Mr. Milan also received the Distinguished Service Award from the TWA Black Caucus in 1982.

The officers are members of the American Public Power Association, American Water Works Association and Kansas Municipal Utilities. They will hold their officer positions for one year.
