Customer Service

The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU) believes that the best customer is an educated customer. We've developed newsletters to do just that. The BPU Connection is mailed to your doorstep twice a year. For additional information you can also subscribe to an e-newsletter version of the BPU Connection. So if you have questions, need energy saving tips or new ideas on conservation, we’ve got the answers for you.

We’ll help you understand your bill, protect your plumbing, plan routine maintenance on your appliances, be prepared for emergencies, and offer energy and water saving tips for lowering your utility costs. To help customers better understand fees and charges on their utility bill, BPU recently redesigned the monthly customer statement. This statement illustration will help better define billing items from BPU and the Unified Government, as well as applicable city, state and county taxes included with your monthly bill summary.

To learn more, select a topic and search our Common Questions Library and our Energy Saving Tips for answers, tips and ideas. Energy Savers brochures are available through our Online Ordering System or pdf's are available in English and Spanish. And, if you have an idea of your own that you’d like to see included in our library, write to us at: info@bpu.com.

Most of the energy conservation actions in our library don’t cost much time, money, or effort – but they can help reduce your energy bills if done consistently over time. Together we can make a difference in the world by using our electrical and water resources wisely.

Take the Energy Pledge Today!

Installing ENERGY STAR® qualified light bulbs is just one small way you can save money and help protect the environment. These compact fluorescent light bulbs use 75 percent less energy than the standard incandescent light bulbs you may be used to using, last up to 10 times longer and generate 70 percent less heat to produce the same amount of light.

In conjunction with the Wyandotte County Unified Government, the BPU supports the ENERGY STAR Change a Light Pledge. You can take an active part in this initiative by taking the pledge today! A simple twist of your wrist to change a light bulb can help make a difference in your utility bills as well as help protect the environment. It’s a win-win initiative that will help all of us live better.
