The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU) proudly serves approximately 69,000 electric and 55,000 water customers in the Kansas City, Kansas community. Our purpose is to provide the highest quality electric and water services at the lowest possible cost. And, while supplying that reliable and dependable utility services to our customers, our vision is to be the best utility for improving the quality of life in the communities we serve.

Electric Utilities

Everyday you turn it on and turn it off. You expect it to work, and thanks to the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities, it does! Our electric plants and delivery systems serve 127.5 square miles within the Kansas City, Kansas, area. We are proud to offer dependable and reliable electric service to every household and business in our community at some of the lowest rates in the nation. We’re committed to the neighborhoods that we serve and work hard to maintain your satisfaction through stable and reliable service.

Water Service

Water is one of the things that we take for granted every day. But the fact is, clean water is an essential part of everyday life in our community. That’s why the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities takes water purification, storage and distribution very seriously. Our mission is to have available upon demand, to all our customers, good quality water and to provide that water in the most efficient manner possible. At BPU, water has been our business for nearly a century. Our state of the art collector well and treatment plant provide up to 45 million gallons of clean water, which is delivered daily to households and businesses throughout our community.

Another 24 million gallons are kept in reserve for emergency situations, including fires. Testing is carefully administered to comply with the Safe Drinking Water Act as well as all state and local regulations. We work hard to insure the quality of the water that your home needs is provided not only today, but also for generations to come.
