Electric Service Standards and Water Rules and Regulations

A goal of the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU) is to help our customers realize optimum value and use from their electric and water service. To satisfy this goal, BPU must effectively use its production and supply capabilities, yet insure a safe, reliable and consistent service to all of our customers. Experience has shown that conformance to uniform standards for installation, wiring, plumbing and design is the best way to accomplish our common goals.

These Electric Service Standards and Rules and Regulations Pertaining to Water Service are not intended to be burdensome or restrictive, but have been established to assist our customers in expediting their service requirements and categorizing customer classifications for service and billing.

These standards are offered to assist customers, architects, engineers, contractors, wiremen, plumbers and inspectors in planning electric and water service installations to be connected to the BPU system.

The latest edition of BPU’s Electric Service Standards and/or Rules and Regulations Pertaining to Water Service can be ordered online through our Online Ordering System.
