BPU Named Finalist for 2018 PR Daily “Corporate Social Responsibility Award”

(KANSAS CITY, Kan.) — The Board of Public Utilities (BPU) was recently named a Finalist for the 2018 PR Daily “Corporate Social Responsibility Award”. This honor recognizes businesses and nonprofits that make a difference, and that display an ongoing commitment to their community and the people that live within it. BPU was selected specifically within the Social Impact and Community Affairs categories.

Judges evaluated BPU’s overall social responsibility efforts to better the local community in four categories, including: 1) donations 2) environmental stewardship; 3) volunteerism, and; 4) civic leadership. Key achievements included sourcing 45% of its power generation from renewable energy sources, community support through its ongoing Summer Youth Program, and the development of an online Energy Engage portal for customers to track and monitor their utility usage amounts and trends.

A panel of judges will now review all 2018 Finalists programs, identifying Category Winners and Honorable Mentions within the next several weeks. Other Finalists in BPU’s category include some of the nation’s most respected business organizations, including KPMG, MasterCard, and ESPN.
