OCTOBER 2025 Community Impact Report
General Manager’s
Report
Kansas weather has a way of reminding us that change can come
fast. Staying ready takes preparation, teamwork, and a steady
hand; the same qualities that define how we approach our work at
BPU. We plan ahead, stay adaptable, and keep our focus on what
matters most: safety, reliability, and service to our community.
This month showed that mindset in action. Crews at Nearman
Power Plant completed key maintenance to ensure reliable
power through winter, while Water Operations advanced the
West Basin project, extending the life of a system that supports
one-third of our community’s water supply. Modernization at the
Parallel Pump Station is also underway, improving efficiency and
water pressure for customers.
We also introduced a new customer phone system, designed to
reduce hold times and improve service access, making it easier
for customers to get the help they need, when they need it.
Beyond operations, our employees continued to show what
service looks like in action. Teams joined UG Environmental
Services for a community cleanup, hosted KCKCC students for a
hands-on day with line crews, and helped kids explore public
service through Touch-a-Truck at Piper Early Childhood. Our
United Way campaign raised over $94,000, a 19% increase from
last year, a true reflection of our team’s generosity.
Every project and partnership reflects who we are — a
community-owned utility built on safety, service, teamwork, and
pride in the place we call home.
