(Kansas City, KS) – The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU) is alerting customers to recent outreach from third-party solar companies that may misrepresent a relationship with BPU.
BPU does not authorize, partner with, or endorse any third-party solar companies. Any claims suggesting otherwise are not accurate.
Some solar companies use phrases such as “BPU Customers” or reference local utility rates that may suggest affiliation or endorsement by BPU. BPU does not conduct door-to-door sales or solicit customers for solar installations.
“It’s important that our customers know exactly who they’re working with,” said Jeremy Ash, General Manager of BPU. “If something doesn’t seem right, we encourage customers to contact BPU directly so they can make informed decisions.”
Customers are encouraged to take the following precautions:
- Always ask for identification if someone claims to represent BPU
- Do not feel pressured to make a decision based on claims that a company is affiliated with or endorsed by BPU
- Verify claims directly with BPU Customer Care
Customers with questions or concerns about solar offers or potential misrepresentation should contact BPU Customer Care at (913) 573-9190.
For media inquiries, please contact Amber Oetting, director of communications and marketing, at aoetting@bpu.com or (913) 573-9049.
