BPU’s Maurice Moss Named a “40 Under Forty” Honoree

(KANSAS CITY, Kan.) — The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU) is pleased to announce that one of its own employees, Maurice Moss, Executive Director of Corporate Compliance, has been named a member of Ingram’s 40 Under Forty Class of 2022. The award, created in 1998, recognizes the achievements and promise of Kansas City’s young executives, professionals, and community leaders. Maurice is a practicing attorney and a stand-out leader in public power and the non-profit arenas, representing and leading the utility industry on multiple fronts and being an advocate for youth and diversity.

“BPU is pleased to have one of the region’s most influential and accomplished young business and community leaders on staff,” said Bill Johnson, BPU General Manager. “On behalf of our Board of Directors, the management team, and our employees we want to congratulate Maurice and his family on this much deserved recognition. It acknowledges not only his expertise within the utility industry, but his efforts in giving back to the community through volunteerism, serving as a role model to young persons, and helping educate persons on the issue of bias and inclusion through his work in the legal community.”

At BPU Maurice is responsible for providing leadership over the functional areas of Environmental Services, NERC Compliance and Risk Management, and monitoring and interpreting regulatory requirements, while working to protect the utility’s assets and integrity. He is Chairman of the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) Legal and Regulatory Committee, a Board Member of the Southwestern Power Resources Association, and previous mentor and volunteer with the Kansas City Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS), among other things.

He was a Diversity and Inclusion Award Honoree in Missouri Lawyer’s Weekly, a past recipient of the Big Couple of the Year Award with the BBBS, and much more.

Maurice received his undergraduate degree from Oral Roberts University, his law degree from Western Michigan University where he was on the Dean’s List and a Presidential Fellow Finalist, and he has an Executive Certificate in MBA Essentials from the University of Illinois – Gies College of Business.

As a public employee, Maurice believes it’s his mission to serve both customers and the community and is appreciative that his position at BPU affords him that opportunity. The father of two with his wife Christa, his passion for youth development has included mentoring others and coaching baseball, while working to open and ensure opportunities for all.
