KANSAS CITY, KS—The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU) is warning customers about
reports of individuals falsely posing as BPU employees to gain access to properties.
BPU reminds customers to protect themselves and their homes by verifying the identity of any
individual claiming to be a BPU employee. Official BPU employees drive clearly marked BPU
vehicles, typically wear attire featuring the BPU logo and carry a BPU-issued badge with photo
		identification.
If an individual claiming to be from BPU approaches a residence and their identity is in question,
customers should request to see their official employee badge. If the individual refuses to provide
identification or their behavior appears suspicious, customers are encouraged to contact local law
enforcement or call the BPU Outage Dispatch Line (913-573-9522), which is monitored in real-time.
Customers can leave a message with details of the incident—including date, time, location, and any
identifying information about the individuals involved. This also allows BPU to verify whether the
individual is an employee and work with law enforcement to take appropriate action if necessary.
BPU remains committed to the community's safety and encourages residents to stay vigilant and
		report any suspicious activity.
