(Kansas City, KS)—The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU), in partnership with the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, is proud to announce the winners of the 2025 BPU Scholarship Fund. These scholarships recognize outstanding students from Wyandotte County pursuing higher education in STEM fields, technical trades, and utility careers.
For the 2025-2026 academic year, seven exceptional students have been awarded scholarships totaling $31,000 to support their educational journeys.
$5,000 Scholarship Recipients:
- Evan Hayes Scruggs – Piper High School, Oklahoma State University, Aerospace Engineering
- Maya Angela Williams – Sumner Academy of Arts & Science, Kansas State University, Civil Engineering
- Christian Eduardo Pazos Chinchilla – Wyandotte High School, University of Missouri-Kansas City, Mechanical Engineering
- Immanuel Davis Murphy – Sumner Academy of Arts & Science, Kansas State University, Environmental Engineering
- Frances-Faith C. Obiesie – Piper High School, Baylor University, Electrical and Computer Engineering
$3,000 Scholarship Recipients:
- Benjamin Joseph Cullum – Bonner Springs High School, Metropolitan Community College, Lineman Training Program
- Emma Grace Lara – Bonner Springs High School, Coffeyville Community College, Secondary Education with an emphasis in Biology
The BPU Scholarship Fund offers financial support to Wyandotte County high school seniors and recent graduates pursuing four-year STEM degrees (up to $5,000), technical/vocational programs, or lineman apprenticeship programs (up to $3,000).
