(Kansas City, Kan.) – The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU) announces the election of its Board officers for the upcoming term following its January 21, 2026, Board meeting.
Brett Parker was elected Board President and will serve a one-year term leading the Board’s governance and strategic oversight. Parker represents District Three and was originally elected to the BPU Board of Directors in 2023. He most recently served as Board Secretary during the prior term.
As Board President, Parker will work closely with BPU leadership to support the organization’s strategic direction, ensure strong governance, and advance BPU’s mission of delivering safe, reliable, and efficient electric and water services to the Wyandotte County community. BPU’s Board is comprised of publicly elected members representing district and at-large seats, ensuring local accountability and community representation.
Jeremy Ash, BPU general manager, congratulated Parker on his election, saying, “I look forward to working with President Parker as we continue to focus on operational excellence, long-term system reliability, and responsible stewardship on behalf of the community we serve.”
Parker succeeds Tom Groneman, who served as Board President during a portion of the prior term. Following Groneman’s departure from the Board, Vice President Rose Mulvany Henry fulfilled the duties of Board President in an interim capacity, consistent with Board governance procedures.
The Board also elected Stevie Wakes, Sr. as Vice President and appointed Rose Mulvany Henry as Secretary, completing the Board’s officer slate for the term.
