Billing Cycle and Due Date Changes

Important Billing Information

Some BPU customers will begin receiving their utility bill on a different date and will have a new due date. This change helps spread billing more evenly throughout the month. Not all customers will be affected. Updates will begin appearing on bills in April or May.

If your bill date does not change, your bill will continue arriving on its normal schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

Billing Cycle and Due Date Changes

Why is BPU changing billing cycles?

BPU is updating billing cycles, so bills are issued more evenly throughout the month. This helps improve billing operations and allows us to provide more consistent customer service.

Will my bill change?

Some customers will see changes to their billing and payment due dates, while others will continue on their current schedule.

When will I see the change?

Customers whose billing dates change will begin seeing the new payment due dates reflected on their bills in April or May.

Will my rates change?

No. This change does not increase rates or add new fees.

Why might my first bill look different?

Some customers may see a slightly longer or shorter billing period on their first bill.

If my payment is different in the first month after the change, will the number of days in the billing cycle even out in the next month?

Yes. Your first bill may be slightly higher or lower because it may cover a longer or shorter period. After that, your billing period will return to a normal monthly schedule with your new billing due date.

How did BPU determine which customers' billing dates needed to change?

BPU adjusted customer groups to better balance billing throughout the month. Changes were made at the group level and not on an individual basis.

Do all customers have the same number of billing days in a cycle?

Most bills cover about the same number of days each month. During the transition, your first bill may include slightly more or fewer days than usual.

How does this impact my due date and payment?

If your billing date changes, your bill will have a new due date. Customers who use automatic bill pay may also see their payment withdrawal date change.

How can I check my billing date?

Customers can check their billing date by logging in to MyMeter at BPU.com or by contacting Customer Care at 913-573-9190 or custservice@bpu.com.
